Monitoring dormouse habitats
About the project
Throughout December 2024, our dormouse-licensed team were instructed to monitor the success of dormouse mitigation measures at various sites along the M23 in Sussex, M11 in Essex and M20 in Kent. This work was part of a broader National Highways dormouse mitigation programme.
Overview of our work
Our ecologists conducted surveys which assessed the condition of any dormouse nest boxes already in place and replacing any that were in disrepair, alongside a plant audit to monitor the establishment of dormouse-friendly scrub and vegetation.
A total of 31 sites were surveyed and 44 dormouse boxes were installed. The locations of the nest boxes were recorded on what3words for future reference.
